Amarkantak – A pilgrim destination to all Hindu beliefs and traditions.

Amarkantak is a pilgrim destination situated in the mountain range of Vindhya and Satpura hills, from where the river Narmada originates from the hill which is made in the shape of a cow's mouth. It is said that it was the place of meditation for great sages like Maikal, Vyasa, Brighu, etc. sages. There is no concrete evidence about the construction of the Narmada temple. Historical evidence suggests that it was built by the Kalachuris around the twelfth century. The Narmada Udgam Kund (birthplace of river Narmada or Ma Narmada as Hindus worship the river as a form of deity) was built by Rewa Nayak. Years after King Bhonsle of Nagpur gave shape to the Narmada Temple which was later renovated by Queen Devi Ahilya. A large complex of temples with temples & idols of gods & goddesses has been built around the temple.
