Nitin Jairam Gadkari: Re-engineering India's Road and Highway Infrastructure!
Nitin Gadkari, the Minister keeping himself away
from all media highlights or maintaining a low profile & immersed in
developing & optimizing Road Transport and Highways of India, has emerged
as a dynamic force in transforming the nation's road and highway infrastructure.
Gadkari has played a key role in revolutionizing India's transportation
scenario with his innovative ideas, relentless pursuit of excellence &
determination to expedite development projects. Under his leadership as RTH
Minister, India has witnessed significant advancements, ensuring seamless
connectivity, boosting economic growth, and promoting sustainable development
across the country.
Under Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, Nitin
Jairam Gadkari has been instrumental in reshaping India's road and highway
sector. He has recognized the importance of a robust transportation network and
emphasized the need for innovation, sustainability, and efficiency. Gadkari's
ambitious goal is to build world-class infrastructure that meets global standards,
improves connectivity, and thus reduces travel time, thereby propagating
economic growth and development.
Not to overlook the data so far after Gadkari
joins the office in 2014 under Narendra Modi’s Govt as Minister for Road
Transport & Highway other than some other portfolios. It can be said that
his first choice or love happened to be the development of road transportation
infrastructure. As per the data available till October’22 construction &
expansion including strengthening of national highways, touched 77400
Kilometres, which is more than length of the country’s total NH network. At
present, India’s NH network span measures around 15 lakh KMs. Also as per
Ministry of RTH shows that construction & widening hit top gear between
2017-18 & 2021-2022 when a total of 54700 km NH stretches were constructed
or widened, which aggregates to around 11000 km/year.
One of Gadkari's key strengths lies in his
ability to expedite project execution. He has introduced several reforms and
policies to streamline the bureaucracy, reduce red tape & facilitate the
timely completion of projects. Through the use of technology, digital
platforms, and e-governance, Gadkari has revolutionized the project approval
process, making it faster, more transparent, and more efficient. His emphasis
on accountability and timely implementation has resulted in accelerated
progress and improved delivery of road and highway projects.
Under Gadkari's leadership, the ”Bharatmala
Pariyojana” was launched as a flagship program aimed at developing and upgrading
the country's national highway network. This ambitious initiative envisions the
construction of over 34,000 kilometers of highways, linking major economic
corridors, border areas, and remote regions. The project's focus on
connectivity and efficient freight movement has the potential to transform
India's transport sector, boost trade, and enhance regional integration.
Gadkari's commitment to sustainability is evident
through his efforts to embrace green and sustainable technologies in road and
highway development. He has promoted the use of alternative fuels, such as
ethanol, biodiesel, and electricity, in vehicles, reducing pollution and
dependence on fossil fuels. Additionally, he has encouraged the adoption of
eco-friendly construction practices, such as the recycling of materials and the
use of green building techniques, to minimize the environmental impact of
infrastructure development.
Acknowledging the importance of connectivity for
socio-economic development, Gadkari always focused on improving rural
connectivity and reducing regional disparities. Through the Pradhan Mantri Gram
Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), he has initiated the construction of rural roads,
connecting villages to essential services, markets & educational
institutions. Furthermore, Gadkari emphasized road safety by implementing
strict measures, promoting awareness campaigns & introducing innovative
technologies to reduce accidents and fatalities on Indian roads.
Nitin Gadkari's contributions to the development
of roads and highways in India have been transformative. His elegant leadership,
emphasis on project execution and commitment to sustainable infrastructure have
pushed the nation toward a modern, efficient, and well-connected transportation
network. Through initiatives like “Bharatmala,” he has focused on enhancing
connectivity, boosting economic growth, and reducing regional disparities. As
India continues to progress, Gadkari's legacy will remain a driving force
behind the nation's infrastructure revolution, laying the foundation for a
brighter and more prosperous future.
