Gitanjali Aiyar: A Void left in TV & Media platform.

In the realm of Indian broadcasting, few names command as much respect and admiration as Gitanjali Aiyar. An esteemed media professional and a TV NEWS Anchor of yesteryears Passed away this Wednesday at the age of 71. She played a significant role in the transformation of Doordarshan, India's public service broadcaster. Gitanjali Aiyar, Started her Career with All India Radio, later she joined Doordarshan in 1971 and was awarded as the best anchor four times during her career with Doordarshan.

One can say she happened to be the prime face of Doordarhan’s prime-time news at 9 p.m. for decades. She brought dignity and grace to television news before newsrooms today seem more likely to be war rooms and news presenters almost screaming and hauling on the subjects.

Aiyar graduated from Kolkata’s Loreto College and also obtained a diploma from the National School Of Drama. As reports reveal that Aiyar grew up observing people like Surojit Sen and Pamela Singh reading news on the radio, and was greatly inspired by them. One of her achievements of Aiyar’s was that she became vastly influential across the Nation in the mid-1970s, before which the only broadcasting channel was only known for the programs like “Chitrahaar” and “Krishi Darshan”. She was also awarded the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for outstanding women in 1989.

Other than the News anchor of Doordarshan’s Prime-time 9 p.m. She also acted in a very famous serial of the 1980s “Khandaan” and often appeared in print advertisements. Later after calling off her career as a news anchor she also worked with Taj & Oberoi hotel groups, as well as World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Award-winning anchor, who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease, collapsed after returning home from a walk, as reported. Condolences from various media houses and political fraternity poured in this sudden loss, leaving a void in the media and TV world.
